Issues and Concepts

"Changing consciousness towards humans as a species "

We humans live and die individually.

Our lives are fleeting compared to the vast expanse of time since the birth of the Earth and humanity.

Humans are insignificant, weak beings, like dust in the universe.

This has not changed since the dawn of humanity.

Originally, humans were nothing more than prey for lions and other wild animals.

However, after the cognitive revolution, Homo sapiens began to believe in illusions.

They formed groups, exterminated, interbred, and dominated many species, spreading across the globe.

Furthermore, through the agricultural revolution, industrial revolution, and information revolution,

humans have become the most powerful species on Earth. We became living organisms.

And then, humans entered the online world.

Then, the wisdom of humanity was concentrated there, and from the first-person perspective of the individual life, we

gained third-person meta-thinking of accounts, users, and avatars.

This gave humans the ability to think more objectively and comprehensively,

rather than simply living and dying as individuals,

we were able to choose how we live and die as an extension of humanity.

We arrived at a perspective of the species.

Have you ever thought about humans as a species?

A certain game prompted me to reflect on the shift from individual consciousness to species consciousness throughout my life.

This presented two challenges for me in my creative work.

First, I incorporated the sins of the species into my works, depicting conflict with nature,

the desire for unstoppable evolution, and the accompanying fears for the future.

This is always lurking in the After that - Prisoner series.

 This is not just a concept;

I challenge viewers to shift and spread their consciousness from that of the individual to that of humanity as a species.

This will help humans to have a deeper awareness of themselves as a species on Earth,

and I hope that as they stand before the works, they will ponder how to prevent the world from becoming as devastated as the series,

and whether, unfortunately, there is no other option but to give up.

I hope that this awareness will flow from the individual to the species, and from the species to the individual,

and that they will ponder this.

And the second point is about creativity.

To me, creativity is the act of creating something from nothing, and I define it as the embodiment of sensibilities and values that do not belong to any particular category,

and that are yet to be expressed in the world.

You could say that these conditions are extremely high.

We humans are born into this world, and the moment we come into contact with reality, we touch the outside air, hear words, and feel the texture of our skin.

As we grow, we belong to families, schools, and societies, and come into contact with the language, culture, and education of each era.

This general growth is a way to survive in the times and a sign of our social existence.

It is linked not only to our survival, but also to the development of culture and art.

On the other hand, the values and morals that are instilled and corrected during growth become preconceptions,

making it extremely difficult to access the nothingness mentioned at the beginning of this theory of creativity.

Nothingness is necessary for creativity.

Acquired skills such as techniques and materials are acquired through elimination from existing works.

However, true creativity requires an enlightening inspiration, incorporating unknown sensibilities and values.

Embodying this is the challenge.

To that end, I tried to suppress as much as possible the knowledge, experience, and preconceptions I gained through growth.

I found value in the accumulation of unconscious line movements and shapes.

Improvisational drawing (automatic writing) is not unknown,

and it does not simply involve pen on paper or any other material originality.

However, I believe that these unconscious, weightless lines bring out the latent individual within me,

and also reveal unknown sensibilities and values that can help me solve problems.
