About the Japan Print Association traveling exhibition

 Traveling Exhibition Section

The Japan Print Association traveling exhibition project has been postponed since 2020 due to the influence of the new coronavirus infection. The fear of an unknown virus and the daily reports of the number of infected people are still fresh in our minds. The cancellation of print exhibitions and other events nationwide cast a dark shadow on the activities of artists.

Meanwhile, in February 2021, I was approached by Hiroki Makino, my predecessor in charge of traveling exhibitions, to become his successor. Before the coronavirus, I had worked with Mr. Makino as an exhibitor at a print exhibition, and we had gotten to know each other very well, such as sipping ramen at the end of a press conference or after a social gathering. However, at that time I had only been a member for three years, and I had never exhibited at a traveling exhibition as a member, so I had no idea what a traveling exhibition was in the first place. Furthermore, raising children meant I had less time to create and opportunities to present, and combined with the sense of confinement caused by the coronavirus, I was at a time when I was losing hope in my printmaking activities, so I had a hard time making a decision. However, I decided to take over the job as the traveling exhibition clerk because there was a long preparation period of more than a year before the touring exhibition could be resumed, Mr. Makino had trusted me, and the existence and future of my wife and children encouraged me to take over the job. . The traveling exhibition business was restarted in 2022.

 Preparation period

Collection of works from the traveling exhibition will take place at the same time as the photo shoot of the works featured in the print exhibition art collection. Photographs of members' works published in the art book are usually taken around August at Hiromi Kawakami Photo Studio. The artbook guidelines that will be mailed to you in advance will contain information regarding the traveling exhibition, and members will need to check whether they wish to exhibit at the traveling exhibition and then send their works along with the shipping form to the studio. After the photo shoot, the works of those wishing to exhibit at the traveling exhibition will be kept as works for the traveling exhibition, and will be framed by JFG Co., Ltd. and transported to the traveling exhibition venue.

(If you would like to create a traveling exhibition work that is different from the work featured in the art book, please fill out a separate shipping form and send it to the studio together with the work featured in the art book and the traveling exhibition work.Import the works featured in the art book as image data on the web. For those who wish to participate in the traveling exhibition, please send the actual work to the studio.)

2022 traveling exhibition held What I worked on independently during the preparation period up to this point was to This is the realization of framing. In previous traveling exhibitions, even if the work was 100x100mm in sheet size or 1000x700mm (the upper limit for traveling exhibition works), it would be framed in B1 size (1030mm x 728mm). However, this specification is not only subject to the soaring costs of framing, packaging, and shipping, but above all, it does not look good. Therefore, we directly discussed changing the framing specifications with Mr. Maki Kuniyoshi, CEO of JFG, and were able to frame each work according to its size. As a result, we were able to reduce framing costs by approximately 120,000 yen, and were able to display more works on the walls of the exhibition hall. In fact, at the 2022 traveling exhibition, we were able to display all of the collected works at all venues.

The collection of works for the traveling exhibition and the sharing of work data were assisted by the head of the art book section and the people gathered at Hiromi Kawakami's photo studio. Regarding the poster, in 2022 we received permission to publish Keizaburo Teshima's work ``Shima Owl Night''. Poster editing, proofreading, and output were done in collaboration with Ayami Miyadera in 2022. We would like to thank everyone who helped us prepare for the traveling exhibition.
